Coronado

Original Coronado cajeta, quemada and envinada in squeeze bottles, plus cajeta lollipops: the Mexican caramel for crepes, pancakes and desserts.

What is cajeta?

Cajeta is a Mexican sweet made by slowly cooking milk with sugar until it caramelizes and thickens. Traditional cajeta is made with goat's milk, which gives it a slightly deeper flavor than dulce de leche. It's thick and glossy, made for spreading or drizzling. In Mexico you'll find it in candy shops, in obleas and even in lollipops.

Quemada or envinada: which cajeta?

Quemada is the classic, with a toasted caramel flavor that goes with everything. Envinada has a hint of wine flavor. If it's your first cajeta, start with quemada. Coronado sells both in squeeze bottles, easy for drizzling over crepes, pancakes, ice cream or popcorn, and also makes cajeta lollipops.

Ways to use cajeta

Crepes with cajeta and pecans, filled obleas, Sunday pancakes, flan, churros or a spoonful straight from the bottle. It's also great with Marías cookies and a cup of café de olla. At MexGoodies it's original Coronado cajeta, shipped anywhere in the U.S. in 3 to 7 days (Canada too).

Frequently asked questions

Are cajeta and dulce de leche the same?

They're close, but no. Traditional cajeta uses goat's milk while dulce de leche is usually made with cow's milk, so cajeta tastes a little deeper.

What's the difference between cajeta quemada and envinada?

Quemada has a toasted caramel flavor and is the most common. Envinada has a hint of wine flavor.

How do you warm up cajeta?

Move it to a bowl and warm it for a few seconds in the microwave or in a water bath, so it loosens up and pours easily.
