Cajeta & Spreads
Mexican cajeta, quemada and envinada, from Coronado, Real del Potosí and San Gabriel, plus dulce de leche and spreads like Nutella for your crepes, pancakes and desserts.
What is cajeta?
Cajeta is a classic Mexican sweet made from milk, traditionally goat's milk, slowly cooked with sugar until it caramelizes into a thick, glossy sauce. It tastes like milk caramel, a little deeper than dulce de leche. Its two best-known styles are quemada, with a toasted caramel flavor, and envinada, with a hint of wine flavor.
How do you use cajeta sauce?
Cajeta works as a sauce or a spread: over crepes, pancakes, waffles, ice cream, flan, churros or popcorn, or sandwiched between two obleas (thin wafers). Squeeze bottles make drizzling easy and mess-free, and if you want it runnier, warm it for a few seconds in a separate bowl. And yes, a spoonful straight from the bottle counts too.
Cajeta brands and spreads

Frequently asked questions
Is cajeta the same as dulce de leche?
They're very close, but not the same. Both are milk cooked with sugar until it caramelizes; traditional cajeta uses goat's milk while dulce de leche is usually made with cow's milk, so cajeta tastes a little deeper.
What's the difference between cajeta quemada and envinada?
Quemada has a toasted caramel flavor, is the most common and goes with everything. Envinada has a hint of wine flavor. If it's your first cajeta, start with quemada.
Where can I buy cajeta in the U.S. or Canada?
